Transform Your Space with Toplighting
Toplighting has the power to completely transform any space, particularly when you upgrade a basic skylight into a high-performance architectural feature. At Kalwall, we’re renowned for our exceptional daylighting solutions that not only create stunningly beautiful spaces but also enhance the health and well-being of those who occupy them. Here are five projects where Kalwall panels breathed new life into spaces in desperate need of daylighting.
Scarborough Atrium
Scarborough, Ontario, Canada
The Scarborough Atrium faced a major issue with its failing glass skylight and remote-controlled blinds. The solution? A 300-foot-long Skyroof® spanning 20,000 square feet that now floods the space with beautiful, glare-free daylight—without the need for secondary controls. By eliminating the need for motorized blinds and future IGU replacements, the client saved millions of dollars, and the reduced HVAC load significantly improved the building’s energy efficiency.
Butler Square
Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
This historic building was plagued by leaks, excessive glare, and heat loss. Kalwall stepped in to solve these issues with a skylight replacement that not only fixed the problems but also helped Butler Square earn the Energy Efficiency Award from the city of Minneapolis. Remarkably, it became the first 100-plus-year-old multitenant commercial building in the world to achieve LEED EB O&M certification.
Elgin Artscape Lofts
Chicago, Illinois, USA
The Kalwall skylight at Elgin Artscape Lofts bathes this unique living-and-gallery space in soft, diffuse natural light, highlighting the art on display. With balanced, glare-free, and museum-quality daylighting, Kalwall panels accentuate the bold colors of each piece while protecting them from harmful UV damage. Additionally, the panels offer exceptional thermal performance and low solar heat gain, aligning perfectly with the project’s goal of Enterprise Green Communities certification.
Benenden Hospital
Cranbrook, Kent, UK
Benenden Hospital’s design team sought a clean, modern, and caring atmosphere, and they achieved it with a series of stunning skylights made from Kalwall® panels. These skylights not only provide natural, glare-free daylight to the areas directly beneath them but also create a soft, ambient light in adjoining spaces. The result is a more stimulating and healthier environment for patients and staff alike.
Heathrow Airport
Terminal 4, London, UK
Kalwall Skyroof® cladding was leveraged to replace the aging glass skylights in Heathrow Airport, being fully compliant with Aviation Security in Airport Development (ASAID) standards for blast performance and providing superior solar control and insulation. Kalwall 100™ panels were specifically chosen to exceed code requirements, future-proofing the project while maintaining security protocols and minimizing disruption in the busy terminal.
