DUBAI METRO HOPS KALWALL EXPRESS

KalwallKalwall Corporation signed a $2 million-plus contract in 2009 to ship its innovative, pre-engineered, translucent building system to Dubai. This contract is phase two of Kalwall's participation in the $4.2 billion construction of the Dubai Metro Project. When the multi-phase, light rail project is completed, it will include four different lines, 46 miles of track and 47 stations.

Superinsulating Kalwall was specified for its ability to transmit controlled natural daylight into a building while insulating it from heat and cold.

"When it's complete, the Dubai Metro Project will connect the emirates with fast ground transportation, reduce air pollution, and alleviate local highway congestion," says Kalwall Corporation Vice President Bruce Keller. "The Kalwall Wall Systems will be part of the maintenance and train servicing buildings at both ends of each rail line. The 300-foot-long structures are highly climate controlled; just imagine these trains coming out of the extreme heat and dust of the desert at the end of a day! Kalwall insulates against the solar heat gain while still allowing natural daylight into these cavernous spaces; this helps the environment by reducing the use of energy for air conditioning and artificial lighting. We were really the only contender for this project, as it required a material that could also stand up to harsh erosion and sun exposure."

Seen from outside during construction, a long run of Kalwall Wall System installs quickly.
